Google is providing lots of useful services and even this service will be helping users and the real estate agents. Users will be able to get property search at ease and real estate agents will be able to post the property on the map with all the details with pics and videos.

Possibly, but hopefully this will mean fewer properties with street address and features hidden.

I think the big issue for google will be
What use is a map based search when many agents dont want to display the address of the property or have the property identfied??
Inherently the portals will always have more listings.

I just went through google real estate and noticed that they have listings from reiwa.com etc. Google's approach to real estate is much more userfriendly than that of other websites. It's much easier to start with a map and then look for houses that are available in that area.

Gee - Toms, I don't get a mention :) Maybe the sudden turnaround in the REA model and share price has something to do with this statement by the new CEO Greg Ellis - “Since joining the company in September 2008 I have undertaken a strategic review of the business and made extensive structural changes to help us realise our goal of profitable growth in markets where our position is strong and the market size and market dynamics are attractive.

This has resulted in a greater focus on organic growth in our core Australian market and the highly attractive Italian market. It has also meant taking decisive action to divest under performing businesses in Australia and overseas.”

However, it should be noted that Sam White and John McGrath are in the real estate industry (both highly successful) and TomS is not as he is a shock broker. Messrs White and McGrath bailed out overnight so mayeb that leaves a clue and REA's current positioning in "new" media? You don't need hindsight when "the dogs are barking" - just ears!

Craig....

TomS is no genius at any time. I did not make a "call" as he claims. He is in the business of making "calls" on shares and I am sure if I made a recommendation he would be whinging about it. Interesting I questioned what analysts would be saying about the move yet he said nothing at the time yet chose to speak up now. He is simply trying to imply a hidden meaning to everyone's comments.

TomS has long been a supporter of REA stocks for quite a while now. He use to regularly post providing good news stories of REA

As an example.. here is one of his classic style posts :

"The article in the Courier Mail mentions that realestate.com.au recorded more than 3.7 million unique browsers over the last year. Surely that’s a print mistake."

and

"Sorry Simon – how many visitors was that? 3.7 million?!? Wow. That must make REA one on te most visited sites in Australia. Impressive."

Very cheesy!!

He is always pointing out every bit of "Good News" he can with REA and assisting to dampen down the bad news.. such as when REA did not deliver massive amounts of emails he said "A small feature of REAs extensive feature set was unavailable for 1 in 4 emails leads.".

It wasn't one little feature was not unavailable .. they did not deliver buyer emails for around 10 weeks I think it was. Realestate.com.au refused to release just how many emails were effected, which many read to be lots.. and lots and lots. .

What I find disappointing is all of this commentary by him and he has failed to disclose his connection to the company and the share price. Whilst he may technically avoid official disclosure requirements of his profession his comments over the years would gain a whole lot more perspective with it.

Greg Vincent – “I wondered why Ray White Group sold its complete shareholding in the REA Group late on Tuesday……” – At today’s share price, Sam is $54 mill in the red. I wonder too Greg.

Glenn Battern – “It will be interesting to see what the stock market analysts have to say about Google’s move. Any nervous holders of stock tomorrow…. Ray White certainly isn’t ?? wonder why ;)” – The market seems to disagree with this call. Pure genius Glenn ;).

Paddy – “Should you sell your REA shares Simon? Probably not right now… but who knows what GEMS lie in the REA Group financial results. Ray White sold out didn’t they?” – Well 09 figures look pretty good actually. The share price is up 51% since this ‘GEM’ was posted.
