Agents facing a huge test in trying times

In an economic climate where the housing market has cooled over Australia and New Zealand it is clear a complete re-think of marketing activities for real estate agents is needed. It is time for a new breed of Agents to get ready for the next surge and there will be a clear distinction between the winners and losers. So let’s look at some of the things that will separate the two.

Losers
– Large Adverts in Yellow Pages
– Pushing traditional media adverts to vendors such as Newspaper/Print
– No Investment in Agents own Website
– Pulling back Internet Advertising on Portals
– Holding back Search Engine Marketing
– Still no clear online education for sales and admin staff

Winners
– Creation of a Forward Agenda/Strategy for Online Advertising
– Using Traditional Media to promote website and listings
– Investment in own Website
– Investment in Search Engine Marketing
– Investment in Sales/Staff training and education in the online world
– Scaling back newspaper advertising and only using it to promote brand and quality.

It still amazes me that agents have a complete lack of understanding of their most valuable marketing tool. I can tell just by visiting their website whether or not an agents cares about there vendors and their brand.

Some are moving forward and creating a real future, but others are being left behind and within 2 years it will be too late for many.
