Some clearing up (updated)

< 1 minute read

A number of my readers have had some interesting conversations with sales people from a certain real estate portal (Not Domain and not REA) and have communicated this to me on a number of occasions. I let this slip for the first one or two times but recently this has become a bit of a regular occurance.

This is how it all works. Salesperson chats to agent about joining said portal. Agent brings up some interesting comments about the portal, salesperson asks if they read this blog. Now here is where it gets interesting.

Salesperson informs agent that I am funded by one of the large portals (REA) and that a CEO of this portal (Simon Baker) is an investor in my company/this blog. I am unhappy to report that this is 100% untrue and that I have never received any monies or favours from any portal or company from this site or any of my companies. I dedicate my time and resources to this site FREE of any affiliations or involvement in any other entities other than my own.

So please come up with something better in the future, because this tactic is obviously not working. Clear?

Peter, you sound surprised that a sales person will make something up in order to try to make a sale. I don’t know whether to feel sorry for the agents that are being lied to.

Lenny Kravitz sang a nice song about it. Something along the lines of “What goes around comes around”.

I would think that the agent would be clued onto this rubbish from the start. It does take a bullshi%%r to know a bullshi%%er.

I do feel for you, being mis represented but in this industry of sharks, snakes and crooks, there will always be rubbish being peddled somewhere.

Thanks for that. Not really concerned, however I just think it is rather pathetic.

    Good Morning,

Peter, if it is having an effect on your business and reputation you really should consider taking legal action.

However, you are certainly the bigger person for not naming this portal on here.

My suspicions point me to the portal which allows some agents to advertise for free, while everyone else has to pay.

    Name and shame I say.

If you have emails you have the support. You may find out that the owner/operators of the unnamed portal have no idea of their salespersons tactics.

The funny thing is that REA have more than their fair share of critical comment on here.

    Good Morning,

Peter, I am wondering if the portal you are talking about here is the same portal who keeps on sending me the same email for the past few weeks.

    http://competition.myhome.com.au/BMWup4grabs/dologin004.php?

I wonder if the money for this competition would be better spent on getting a designer in to fix up the mistakes on myhome?

Any agent who signs up for a chance to win a car, and is willing to provide all their data to Elders and L.J Hooker, has to have rocks in their head.
