A lot us talk about doing stuff. And certainly there’s a 101 great ideas for shows of all types and sizes on property. I’ve had about a dozen myself.

But there’s a country mile between the talking and the doing.

The ‘doing’ is called going ‘the extra mile’ – and there’s not a lot of traffic on it.

Which is why I raise my ‘cowboy’ hat to a guy called Shane Gore, who’s managed to pull together a two-hour show on Gold Coast real estate – with rates, Shane explains, that go head-to-head with The Gold Coast Bulletin.

I don’t understand media buying, as I’m not in that game. So I can’t comment.

But any exercise in draining VPA from ‘The Establishment’ is not going to make for a very happy camping ground.

It has taken Shane about three years to pull it off; and he’s done so by looking at all the content suppliers on the Gold Coast, and then, very gracefully and creatively ‘pimping’ all of our services; mashing them up in a very GC show – that’s being posted by the super slick operations of BlackLab and Cutting Edge.

And these outfits are VERY SUPER BROADCAST SLICK. No doubt about that.

Plus. I use the word ‘pimping’ in, actually, a very complimentary fashion.

And no doubt Shane will take great exception to the term. But I was ‘pimped’ before I knew it, as a lot of content was downloaded from the Internet and cut into a ‘pilot’.

Without our knowledge. But there’s no great gain without a great risk.

And I like Shane and what he’s trying to do.

I’ve even signed my Non Disclosures and my Copyright waivers; and supplied copies of the $21 million in public liability insurance we need to operate in public as property ‘video’ shooters.

In fact, I have never been ‘pimped’ any better, in what is the ultimate exercise in aggregating existing content and re-purposing it for what I reckon is a dead duck medium.

And that’s TV. Closely followed by newspapers. Its a rolling bet which line of dominoes falls first.

Short of the next series of UNDERBELLY on Nine, I see nothing compelling about what’s on offer on TV anymore.

TV needs all the help it can get. I mean it IS there. We turn it ON. But it is still an idiot box.

Concepts like Shane’s that can bridge the gap and drive viewers to portals are interesting.

In fact. I wish I’d thought of GOLD COAST FOR SALE myself but I’m still very much in the bridge-mending or bridge-building stages, between myself and various competitors, so I can attempt to deliver some impartial postings – post the controversial ‘Banning Adjectives in Property’.

Shane approached most of the content suppliers on the Coast; from those offering the dreaded ‘Ken Burns Slide Show’ – which is not video, despite the fact it happens to be ‘moving’ (while anything and everything in the frame itself remains ‘still’) – and most of the digital cinematographers specializing in property.

From the GC to Brisbane.

The good. The bad. And the ugly.

I’m supporting GOLD COAST FOR SALE and we’ve licensed about three years of Gold Coast HD lifestyle for this new series.

The Burning Questions:

Will two-hours of Gold Coast real estate ‘rate’ on a Sunday morning? I’ve personally lost half a million investing in a series called JUST FOR THE RECORD on Ten. Which didn’t. The Comedy Company got my slot and the rest was history.
And will it sell property?

These are two real hard hurdles to jump.

If GOLD COAST FOR SALE can clear them, the ground rules will change.

    Brett you may want to be slightly more neutral about your article.
    This reads like a advertisement. ‘VERY SUPER BROADCAST SLICK’ indeed.

    As for the show, I wouldnt have thought a 2 hour real estate show would work.
    Channel 10 and the people involved think differently though so its definitely something to keep a eye on.
    If the idea works in the Gold Coast then it will probably go elsewhere as well.
    I’ll be keeping a close eye on it personally.

    You have been having a shocking time Brett, but maybe it’s showing you that you should be taking a different angle to your Posts.

    Leave the commenting on programs that you’re involved with to someone else on the Business2 team. Gold Coast for Sale is a very valid and interesting post, unfortunately it just appears biased by your association with it.

    You are in an enviable position on Business2-Real Estate Agents and the like are a receptive audience just waiting to adapt to new technology. Start educating people in the medium you’re so obviously passionate about.

    Help your comrades in the same field by explaining some of the aspects of online video that seem to confuse the general audience. The more people are informed about new technology, the more they want to use it.

    1. What is the difference between a virtual tour, a slideshow and a video tour?
    2. How do I upload a video to my site? – what’s the best host in terms of quality/price. Do I use links or do I embed?
    3. How do I get top rating on Google with video SEO?
    4. What programs can I use to get my video onto my iPhone?
    5. Why should I get a property video produced?
    6. More and more Agents in US are using Flip video-how do you see the trend taking off in Australia?
    7. How can video establish an online brand?
    8. How video works with your established marketing (photos,floorplans) to enhance your listings.
    9. What are mobile codes (QR codes) and how can they be incorporated into your online video marketing?

    I see you on this site as representing all online video production companies. Do us proud and relish the chance you’ve been given. But most of all have fun…like the guys from Visual Domain

    I also believe that all Tourism bodies and should work with local online portal directories. I know this as so many of these helped my accommodation business and most never got one cent or any assistance from Tourism of State Government offices.

    Watched the show this morning. Although we’re not “in the market” we enjoyed having it on while doing our morning routine (a little too long to sit down and watch in one 2 hr sitting). We love real estate but don’t often sit on the net or scour the bulletin so this was refreshing. My gripes? The least appealing part about RE is the agents, get a presenter and lose the cheese. And a few more lifestyle segments to break it up would have been good. Will watch it again next week though.

    Hmm I just checked out a few segments, and one thing that stood out like a sore thumb, was that it was on YouTube.
    C’mon its a proper TV show, and the videos are hosted on a free video site.
    It costs a few bucks a month to get a proper CDN system for serving your video.
    If they are reading this: contact me if you want a bit of help with that. 🙂

    I agree Fleur. The agents were awful.
    That plus half the time the watermark was stuck on top of their head.
    It doesnt look great when their eye is a logo.

    As a side note, they should fire their web guy.
    I Googled for ‘gold coast for sale tv’ which is their exact domain name.
    Its not actually in Google! I was left scratching my head after that one. 😛

    So many years of trying to get it off the ground but clearly none related to the web.
    Domain was only registered back 2009-10-05 , knowing google updates would be due to arrive end of 2009 they should of at least had some thing listed.
    The .TV theme domain is all good but I have found it’s a little more difficult to push up the ranks on Google Australia searches.

    Talk of so much planning , but looks more like a rush job.

    I think it’s great to see that somebody is out there pushing hard and doing something different. I wish them good luck with their show!

    @ Nick: I wouldn’t cough at YouTube, just because it’s free, doesn’t make it bad. In fact I challenge you to achieve a better search engine ranking and Google Video Search listing with your privately served CDN system. Google gives preference to it’s own.

    Christian maybe I’m missing some thing with the whole Gold .TV , I’m sure some thing similar was done some years back, I just cannot put my finger on the name of the show.

    Can you please clarify your challenge, your comment is a little confusing.
    Are you referring to Google video search , some thing that most users do not know exists?

    I’m glad you asked! 🙂

    Google give preference to it’s own videos. This is widely known. Unless you have better SEO skills than Google, (which is unlikely otherwise they’d probably have poached you already!) you will have an extremely hard time getting a better search listing with a private served site that streams it’s own video. It can be done, but it’s not easy, hence the playful challenge at Nick. No real, do or die, fall to your death challenge. 🙂

    What makes you think that most users don’t know what the google video search is? Are there any stats around? I’d love to see them, I thought everybody knew. It’s right there near the search bar!
