Business2.com.au turns 10 and we want you!

3 minute read

At Christmas this year it will be 10 years since I penned my first post on a Commodore PET…… well not really, but come January 12th 2012 it will be 10 years since we wrote that first post on a website powered by Movable Type, by 2003 I had a whopping 15 posts and received my first comment, you can only imagine my excitement! By late 2004 things certainly started to roll a certain Real Estate Portal CEO can be thanked for this, he politely took umbrage to a post and this garnered a few comments and from there things started to move along nicely. We have always welcome comments from people inside and out of the industry whose views may oppose our own, in fact the success of our site depends on those views.

Our Mantra

Simply put, we do not really have one, but our focus is and has always been on what is good for real estate agents both in the online world and in everyday business. We do not play favourites and as proof we have approved over 99.9% of all comments. In fact, out of more than 10,000 comments we have only had to hold back less than a handful (some for very obvious legal reasons). We do get quite a few complaints (including multiple threats of legal action) about certain comments but these are usually from pretty thin skinned people, however we always try to keep everything as sensible as possible. Our focus will remain the same… however….. Over the years we have added multiple authors and Ryan, Glenn, Dave, Greg and now Charlie have become regular contributors and are an invaluable asset to business2 and our community. We now have some 32 people who have contributed in one way or another to the site and we would like to see our regulars list continue to build over time.

We want you!

We want content contributors from across the real estate spectrum whether you are an agent specialising in certain areas, a software developer, service provider, portal or just a real estate enthusiast! Remember blogging just isn’t for Christmas, so we are looking for people who have ideas and want to share them with others. Click here to Apply

Note:Business2.com.au is not a chest thumping publicity forum, you and your company will get recognition by the quality of your articles (and your profile), self promotion or product promotion does not work anyway, so the focus can relate to your companies products or services but it cannot be the focus of the article.

Business2.com.au Version 5

We have had a number of iterations of Business2.com.au over the years and we will celebrate our 10th birthday early with a new release in the very near future. The focus of the new release will be on fostering deeper discussions, social integration, cleaner layout, better flow and cleaner typography and a nice little contributors section. We will also be releasing a new version of our supplier directory with a free area and also a premium area for companies that wish to further showcase their brand, products and services on a deeper level to real estate agents and professionals

Bill, thank you, the success of the website comes down to people just like yourself and of course all of the contributors as without them and people who comment this site would just be me shouting out into the Abyss 🙂

Great forum Peter, certainly the best real estate blog in Australia. The commentary has been entertaining, educational, controversial and most of all you let it go without fear.

Congratulations on 10 years coming up.

Thank you everyone for the kind words Vic, Rachael, Steve, Glenn and Dave. It is a lot of fun hearing from you all and I happy to hear you all still find this a valuable resource.

We do hope with V5 we will be expanding on this with a renewed sense of energy and hoping to add a few more contributors from a range of service industries.

    10 years. woohoo… congrats Peter..

I am closing in on 100 articles as well. I have been a little quiet lately. We chose to open up another office close to a year ago whilst everybody else was closing them down here on the Gold Coast. It has been incredible building up an online presence from scratch and I had to put a lot of what I have blogged about into practice it again.

I have a quite a few blog posts I want to do on the experience, its just a matter of finding the time at the moment. Cloud computing with Office365, a agency blog that provided a direct ROI over $40k in 6 months and building SEO for a brand new agency from scratch. So I might turn 100 sometime early next year.

We have had quite a few contributors that have written one or two articles and then never returned. I can certainly appreciate that as initially I was very much out of my depth and never thought I would see 10 articles under my belt let alone 100. Thankfully I stuck it out and its interesting to go over some of my older articles now. I would recommend to anybody considering joining the team of contributors that you stick it out. Don’t pull up stumps because a few of the vocal minority disagree with you because there are a lot of people out there who read the articles and appreciate it.

Congratulations Peter. When launching B2 you were and still are ahead of your time. To think that YouTube, Twitter and Facebook weren’t even around when you started B2 puts it into some perspective.

We have seen some enormous changes in our industry over the past 10 years and over these next few years we will experience an order of magnitude change and B2 has always provided a great resource for embracing/understanding change.

I have thoroughly enjoyed being a Contributor for B2 (sorry I know I’ve been a bit quiet lately but I’ve been busy creating & running training for agents).

I’ll put pen to paper again soon for B2 because there are so many changes going on in the Social Space.

    Happy Anniversary!

believe it or not besides your very good results in search engines, I heard about Business2 from a friend I played soccer with ! You can’t beat the old word of mouth, when something is good!

It has been a valuable resource and fun to contribute to…I promise i will have more articles, for what they are worth, coming when we finish our new portal redevelopment….

mmmm theres an article right there…

    Glenn, Greg, Andy

Thanks for the kind words. As for YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, the only one I sort of got right was Facebook, when I wrote about how badly MySpace was laid out and that a competitor like Facebook would win, easy to say now!

As for Contributors who have stopped contributing, the will be relegated to Guest Authors. I want to get to one per month per contributor in 2012.

We will have a Google Hangout shortly to go over new site and get any feedback from you guys, lets try to arrange a time this week.

    Regards
    Peter
