Domain.com.au secures partnership with Telstra Media

2 minute read

Today, Domain.com.au announced they have entered into a joint online partnership with Telstra Media that will offer greater exposure to Domain agents and their clients for their property listings.

Fairfax Real Estate will develop a co-branded version of the Domain.com.au website through Telstra BigPond, and will feature Domain property listings as well as providing real estate content for other areas of the BigPond website.

The Telstra BigPond website currently averages more than 5,500,000 unique audience visitors monthly.

The site will be launched in late-September and will be in place for two years.

Matt Siddons, Marketing Director, Real Estate, for Fairfax Marketplaces.

We are very excited to announce the partnership between Domain and Telstra Media,

The strength and audience reach of Telstra BigPond will bring even greater value to agents and their clients, which is in addition to the web and print offerings and the award-winning range of apps for mobile devices, as part of the multi-platform range of marketing tools from Domain,”

This follows in-line with other content sharing arrangements that Fairfax has entered into including with Ninemsn. It’s a blow for Realestateview who look like they will be getting the boot from the Telstra site.

You usually find these content sharing arrangements change every few years as Fairfax previous held eBay which has now gone to REA. REA also have the deal with Yahoo.

This will have a huge impact on REV.

It will do damage upfront through less traffic to their site. On top of that and since they currently enjoy powerful Telstra back-links to REV (which will disappear) their serps will also take a hit over time. That will further compound their traffic and relevancy problems. They absolutely will need to find another quality partnering to replace Telstra.

The reality is that REV brings only a trickle of sales leads to our agency. We have over 150 clients and yet seldom get a lead from REV. It would average 3 a month at best. It’s hard to fathom how a site could perform that poorly and now it seems it’s destined to be even less useful.

Any portal that doesn’t find a way to drive traffic is all but useless. There is a big prize for anyone who gets that equation correct.

I do seo and similar work for a few large-ish clients and have access to some interesting tools.
For the last month or so, Bigpond sent 1.5% of the total traffic referred to REV. In the last week that was only .25%.

I dont think this is going to have the negative impact on REV, nor the positive one for Domain that people think. There is some bragging rights no doubt and brand recognition.

I agree Dan, when REA lost NineMSN I thought that would throw them back to number 2, but it didnt have the impact I thought it would.
        Telstra is nothing by comparison.

I see portals becoming less important.
